Packing and packaging is the hardest part of moving. In order to stay calm and organized, we have prepared a guide with everything you need to pay attention to.
Start preparing for moving early
Packing takes time especially when you are going to prepare the whole household. Get all the packaging materials you will need. Boxes, tapes, styrofoam and all the materials that we will be suggested to you below can be found in hardware – paint stores or from specialized packaging material stores and technical department stores.
Do not overload
Do not be tempted to put as many things as you can in a few boxes. Each box should be loaded with as much weight as it can support. Use boxes with dimensions of approximately 60cmX40cmX40cm. Do not exceed 20 kg in each box. When packing heavier items (e.g. books) pack them in smaller boxes (e.g. 30cm X20cmX20cm). Use durable boxes and nylon material for extra support.
Properly complete the labels
It is important that each box bears the SENDER details (name and phone number) even if they are in a pallet. It is important to write them clearly. In each box also write a serial number and next to it the total number of boxes e.g. 1/8, 2/8, 3/8 and so on. This will help the transporter to check that no box is missing.
Properly pack furniture and electrical appliances
When moving furniture and electrical appliances, protecting them should be your first priority. So do not omit the right packaging materials. First wrap with an corrugated cardboard1 and then with a bubble wrap2. For more safety, wrap them in double bubble wrap2. Finally, tight firmly with packing tape3 or stretch film4 to secure the rest of the packing material.
Properly pack porcelain, glassware and dishes
Fragile objects will need extra attention. Wrap your dishes and glasses one by one with tissue paper5. Place the wrapped items in cardboard boxes6 that you have previously filled with crushed styrofoam7. Materials such as crushed styrofoam fill the empty space between objects and prevent them from colliding with each other.
Properly pack sensitive items and TVs
TVs and other electrical appliances are probably some of the most expensive items you can transport. That’s why you should not only choose a reliable transport company, such as Kef, but also pack them well. First wrap the TV with foam8 and then with bubble wrap2. For greater safety, we recommend 2 layers of bubble wrap.
The TVs are ideally packed in the factory transport box. If you have not kept it, use crushed styrofoam to fill the empty space in the box.
Properly pack carpets and mattresses
Carpets and mattresses are some of the items that can not be put in a box. To transport them, wrap them first and then place them in the special packaging and transport cases. Alternatively you can wrap them with stretch film4.
The same goes for the mattresses.
